The Passion of the Towers?
Ann Althouse points us to the most unnecessary film ever made. Yes, Oliver Stone's 9/11 is coming to a theater near you. I wonder, as she does, if there is any reason for such a picture. Sure, Passion of the Christ drew us back into Jesus time and made us feel what He felt, but 9/11 is something we know too well. Make this movie 2000 years from now.
NECESSARY ADD ON: Libertas echoes Ann and I brilliantly.

Oh c'mon, you KNOW you loved Gladiator and Black Hawk Down. You know Ollie Stone will at least be emotional and have the requisite "ethnic wail" in the soundtrack, most likely scored by Lisa Gerrard from Dead Can Dance. Its just straight formulaic!
The Nick Cage factor scares me more and whoever writes the movie. Ollie will work with whatever script he gets, the better the script, the better the movie. That's what I'm waiting to see: who's writing the dang thing.
I just read yesterday that Nicholas was slated. Is this going to be a serious portrayal or ConAir come Backdraft? Their picking up of the pace in light of the London bombings only adds to my concern that this is purely money-driven. Like the "requisite ethnic wail" for the consumer, they will throw the political bones to the watchdogs that they need to, but at the end of the day return to their penthouse atop the personal towers they have built. Am I right? Should something as "significant" to our culture as 9/11 be turned into entertainment?
UPDATE: This piece over at Slate just about says it all. Silly me. I thought they were making entertainment. I stand corrected. They are making another Farenheit 9/11 for those who missed the first one.
