The Idol of Safety

Have you ever considered that one of the biggest things we worship--yes, worship--today is safety. Often, bowing to the god of safety means we don’t do something that should be done because it wouldn’t be “safe”; or we fail to use or enjoy the creation God has given us because to do so would involve “risk”; or we simply hide away in our shell-like tract homes failing to minister to or evangelize others because of the unsafeness of it all.

In that light, this article on the reduction of our children’s “play space” over the course of four generations is very telling. Give it a read, go read one of the Gospels or Acts, and then take some time to repent of your worship of safety.
